Welcome back Mac

I did it. I got Mac OS X installed on my Dell Vostro 1310 and I am loving it. A few months ago I accidently erased Windows XP from my computer. Good thing I had backed up to Amazon S3 (using Dragon Disk) before so I didn’t lose all of my files. Anyways, instead of re-installing windows I decided to try to use a linux distribution. So I did and I used PCLINUXOS. The installation went well enough and I was off and running. PCLINUXOS was fine but there were some things that just didn’t work. I also thought my computer was able to operate faster than PCLINUXOS had it moving. I used the linux distribution for a few months then it started acting up. So I bought an external HD (WD Elements desktop external HD 2TB) That offers a ton of memory. More memory than I need, but I feel good having it. I moved all of my files onto the external drive and decided to re-install windows xp. I must have spent 4 hours trying to install windows xp on the laptop it originally came with. It didn’t work. It was soooo frustrating. I decided I wasn’t going to stress myself out and decided to try and install Mac OS X Leopard on my Dell. That was the main reason I’d gotten the Vostro. I’d read I could install Mac. I followed this guide exactly and watched this video on youtube and it worked exactly as it said it would. You don’t know how rare that is. For something to work just like they said it would....

The Fattest Place On Earth w/ Video The fattest place on earth isn’t in America. The tiny Pacific island nation of Nauru holds that honor. At only 8.1 sq. miles, with a population of less than 10,000, the country’s inhabitants have virtually become giants. Ninety-five percent of the island’s adult population is overweight, and 85 percent of the male adult population is obese, according to ABC News. However, island natives haven’t always been this fat. According to ABC, it wasn’t until they began importing Western food that the population’s size exploded. Now half of Nauruans suffer from Type II diabetes. Video from ABC NewsRead...

I wanted to post interesting links I’ve come across today from various venues. Some of the links will be books and publishing related and some will be random. Cheating and The Crackerjack Conundrum

After a hypothetical question on facebook about cheating, my husband and I started to talk about it. We got down to why people cheat and he said this that made me think. Hubby: “It’s like opening up a box of crackerjacks when you’re a kid. You’re like oh wow, ummm, I love these. They taste so good. crunch, crunch, crunch, OMG! a prize, that’s great. you play with the new toy and keep getting surprised. After a while… you might find a stale peanut. Or the box of crackerjacks finish. You’re full but that only lasts for a time. That’s one of the reasons people cheat. There is no excitement, no surprise any more.” Me: “Ok. What can be done to help that. You can eat but so much crackerjacks, after a while you are going to want something else. What should be done?” Hubby”: “Well you should remember how the crackerjacks use to taste and be content with that” Me: “Well why do you have to settle with memories? People are always changing. Nothing is constant except change. If you look, there are many surprises to people who you’ve known for a long time. Why do some people get bored and instead try to find either another box of crackerjacks or another flavor or caramel popcorn?” (remember, we’re still talking about crackerjacks here). Me: “Plus it’s boring. I don’t believe in settling”. So, how do you keep you or your significant other from searching out the New and Exciting vs the same and possibly exciting. Can love for someone alone keep you...
